Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration on Saturday decided to install another 23 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras on the shrine premises to monitor movements of devotees, tourists, servitors and suspicious elements.

At present, there are 78 CCTVs installed on the temple premises.

A decision to this effect was taken at the temple management committee meeting, chaired by scion of the erstwhile Puri royal family Gajapati Dibyasingh Deb. After the meeting, the temple's chief administrator P.K. Mohapatra said: "The cameras will be installed in various locations on the premises to get the entire area under surveillance."

However, the management committee did not delve deep into the controversy surrounding sudden appearance of missing keys of the ratna bhandar, the treasury of the Lord Jagannath. "As judicial commission has been set up to probe the matter, the temple management committee has decided to wait for the findings," said Mohapatra.

The management has also decided to closely watch that no servitor forces devotees to give them the donation. "We will abide by the decision of the Supreme Court on the issue regarding donation," said Mohapatra.

No servitors would be allowed to set up any kind of hundis (donation boxes) during rath yatra.

He also said the state would provide the required information to the Puri district and sessions judge, who has been directed by the Supreme Court to probe the management affairs of the temple.

The meeting also discussed about arrangements for the smooth conduct of rituals of rath yatra, including snan yatra, bahuda yatra and niladri bije. The snan yatra will be held on June 28, and rath yatra on July 14.

The temple management has also decided to set up a panel with Dibyasingh Deb, chief administrator, Puri collector and the police superintendent as members to hold discussions with Shankaracharya on allegations of inadvertent transfer of Govardhan Peeth land to the Puri Srimandir records.

The committee also did not discuss about the reports of the special branch about the possible shortage of ropes that is to be acquired from the Odisha Kata Nigam for pulling the chariots. The employees are on a strike demanding more perks and pay.

"The administration has not received any such reports till now. If we get any feedbacks on it, we will certainly rise to the occasion. The corporation has taken order from us," said a temple official.
