Keonjhar, April 4: Two unidentified youths on Monday decamped after snatching Rs 3.26 lakh at gunpoint from officials of a private company at mineral-rich Joda town in Keonjhar.
The incident took place at Hati Park of the town around 1pm today while two employees of the company were on their way to bank to deposit the money.
According to the complainant, a sales manager and driver of Mahalaxmi Enterprises were travelling on a motorcycle. They were going to the State Bank of India’s branch at Joda to deposit the money. They were intercepted by two motorcycle borne unidentified youths. The FIR stated men armed with revolver snatched the bag and fled.
“The gangsters brandished a revolver and snatched the bag containing the cash Rs 3, 26,000 before driving away,” said Jagannath Acharya, inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Joda police station.
Local residents of the area, who witnessed the incident, told The Telegraph that the armed anti-socials, in a bid to confuse people, escaped through narrow by-lanes, instead of the main road. “It seems that they are familiar with the roads of the area,” said a local resident.
Soon after the incident, orders to keep watch on all major exit points of the city were given. Till this evening, police got no leads about the accused. However, the Joda IIC said: “We have launched intensive investigations to crack the case. We are looking for clues and hints.”
