Bhubaneswar: The state government has created a roadmap for students selected in the Odisha Skills competition that ended on Monday.
The event was the state-level chapter of the India Skills competition jointly organised by the National Skill Development Corporation and the state government's department of skill development and entrepreneurship.
The India Skills competition will serve as a gateway to the WorldSkills International in Kazan, Russia, in 2019.
Competitions were hosted in 25 categories - carpentry, health and social care, cabinet making, 3D digital game art, web design and development, electrical installation, electronics, mobile robotics and automobile technology.
The Odisha Skill Development Auhtority has planned the "Mission One, Two and Three" for the upcoming events.
"We have targeted one gold, two silver and three bronze medals for the state. We will train them rigorously," said authority chairman Subroto Bagchi.
The state government has also announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for gold winners, Rs 75,000 for silver medal winners and Rs 50,000 for those who finish with bronze medals.
The competitors were selected for the state-level competition from the district-level events.
Around 118 students took part in the competitions and 74 were given medals.
They will provide the organisers, the local industry, academia, trainers and potential competitors a detailed understanding of the preparation for and conduct of the skills competitions.
The winner of the India Skills Competition 2018 will get an opportunity to take part in the WorldSkills International.
The National Skill Development Corporation has been leading the country's participation at the competition since 2011, an official said.
WorldSkills International is the largest skills competition in the world organised every two years in one of the member countries.
More than 1,300 contestants below 23 years compete for gold, silver and bronze medals in over 50 categories. The competition is held over four days.
