Cuttack, Dec. 1: Ravenshaw University will organise an international conference on the right to education for those with disability or learning difficulty from December 7.

The conference, titled From Development to Empowerment: Rethinking and Inclusive Education for Visually Impaired, will explore all possibilities on improvement of various methods of imparting education.

Around 300 delegates from various universities, students across the country and world will attend the conference which the varsity will organise in collaboration with Indian Council for Social Science Research.

General secretary of Blind People’s Association Nandini Rawal, human rights research scholar at Oxford University Bharat Joshi and secretary general of International Council for Education of Visually Impaired M.N.G. Mani will address the conference.

“The conference will deal with various aspects on how to improve and change certain methods of education so that it caters to the all-around development of the visually-challenged students by enhancing their skills,” said B.C. Tripathy, vice-chancellor of Ravenshaw University.

Tripathy said the conference would provide a platform to forge links with various institutions, regional organisations as well as policy centres engaged in educating visually-challenged children.

The conference will assist policy makers to identify a number of specific areas for intervention as it would focus on equal opportunities, empowerment, sustainability and education.

“Teachers can get an overview of various international as well as national and regional policies that can help them in evolving a module for classroom teaching for the disabled students,” said Priabrat Majhi, organising convener of the conference.
