Cuttack, Sept. 23: Police will soon notify the public about its plan to streamline the traffic flow during Puja.
One of the senior officials said: “A detailed route chart has been prepared to regulate the traffic by introducing ‘one-way’ system in different parts of the city and the national highway that is to host a crowd of three lakhs.”
“The one way traffic system will be used for five days starting from October 1, and we will focus on the main roads connecting several localities from High Court via Choudhry bazaar, Dargha bazaar, Buxi bazaar, Howrah motors and Manglabag up to Ranihat,” said the deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora.
Moreover, a proposal to divert heavy vehicles, coming from Berhampur via Bhubaneswar on NH-5 near Pitapali, is also being made. This plan awaits approval from the commissioner of police.
A public notice on regulating the movement of heavy vehicles on the highway from 9 am to 11 pm will also be issued shortly, to help the devotees.
As one of the bridges over Taladanda canal has been demolished and the second bridge is being reconstructed to support more traffic flow. A plan has been made to divert the traffic, coming from Sikharpur, towards either the second bridge or Jobra.
Umakant Das, a commuter, said that adequate deployment of traffic constables should be made at places like Seminary chak, Dargha bazaar, Bajrakabati road and Ranihat.
“Presently, we have 157 constables, moreover, more men from Bhubaneswar and other parts will be utilised to manage the traffic flow at multiple locations during the festival,” said the additional commissioner of traffic police P.K.Dalai.
