Bhubaneswar: Top cop R.P. Sharma on Tuesday inaugurated a town police outpost at Magnetic Chowk in Infocity police station area on Tuesday especially keeping in mind the needs of students in the education hub.
At present, the outpost will have to manage the affairs with only one assistant sub-inspector and four constables. In future, one sub-inspector, one havildar and four more constables will be deployed.
"Usually, the outposts are headed by havildars and are primarily involved in night patrolling. But, this outpost will have officers who can take up investigation. It will also maintain a station diary just like a police station. However, cases will be registered with the police station concerned," said DCP Satyabrata Bhoi.
He also said that two similar outposts would be set up at Info Valley and IIT-Bhubaneswar in the near future. Some of the city's major institutions, such as the KIIT University, are situated at Magnetic Chowk and more than one lakh students live in the area.
