Rourkela, July 17: Rajgangpur police have successfully cracked the series of petrol pump loot cases that occurred on July 11 and July 14.

The police arrested the kingpin, Binod Soren, 35, from near Kalunga by tracking his motorcycle number.

Soren, who belongs to Jharkhand, was staying there with his younger sister. He worked in an industrial unit in Kalunga. One of his associates, Ashok Purti, is married to his elder sister.

"He had bought a bike that was registered under the state. He and his associates used this bike for criminal activities in Jharkhand and in the loot cases here," said sub-divisional police officer Rajgangpur B.K. Nayak.

Nayak said: "Three associates of Soren are still at large, but will be arrested shortly."

The four had looted three petrol filling stations at gunpoint with their faces covered at Jampalli and escaped with around Rs 12,000. The second time, they robbed two petrol stations at Laing and escaped with Rs 85,000. The modus operandi was the same.

At Jampalli, Soren, his brother-in-law Purti, another associate Mahadev of Gumla were involved along with another person.

Nayak said that since the bike had changed hands thrice, it was difficult to trace them. After seven consecutive raids at different places, he was finally held in Kalunga.
