Medical team in Rourkela Bandh Credit camp Arrest Guns seized Scholarship Gherao

Medical team in Rourkela

Bhubaneswar: At least 20 persons have been admitted to hospitals in Rourkela after suffering from diarrhoea at Luhakera village. The patients had developed symptoms such as, loose motion, vomiting and fever. A medical team with adequate medicines have rushed to the village and door-to-door medical check up have been conducted to contain the disease, informed chief district medical officer R. K. Joshi.

Bandh

Bhubaneswar: Local residents of Khurda on Friday observed bandh following the recovery of the body of one Sudhir Panda from Koraput. The deceased had been missing for the last two days. Panda was allegedly abducted along with the vehicle he was travelling in. The local residents staged protest demanding a compensation of Rs 10 lakh.

Credit camp

Cuttack: Loans amounting to Rs 20 crore were disbursed to 2,000 beneficiaries at a mega credit camp organised by the UCO Bank (Cuttack zone) at Choudwar on Thursday. Chairman-cum-managing director of the bank Arun Kaul was the chief guest of the camp on agriculture, housing, education and small business.

Arrest

Balasore: One person was arrested on Friday by Balasore police under the National Security Act for having been involved in 17 cases. The accused, Dipak Ranjan Rout alias Dipu, was booked following approval of the district collector on the recommendation of the district police. Several cases of loot, dacoity and burglary were pending against the accused. The police said, Rout had been lodged in Balasore jail as an undertrial prisoner.

Guns seized

Sambalpur: Three criminals were arrested by the Sambalpur police. The police have also seized arms and ammunition from them. One revolver, a shot gun and seven rounds of ammunition were seized. The accused have been identified as Binod Singh, Sunil Munda and Amarish Naik. The accused were running an arm peddling racket and had sold the arms in Sambalpur and Jharsuguda.

Scholarship

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Friday issued a notice regarding pre-matric scholarship for Schedule Tribe (ST) and Schedule Caste (SC) students for the year 2011-12. The candidates need to collect the application form from the offices of the district welfare officer concerned. Application forms can be downloaded from the SC and ST development official website (http://www.orissa.gov.in/stsc/index.html.) The last date of submission of the form is September 15.

Gherao

Bhubaneswar: Five forest staff were ghearoed for over three hours by slumdwellers at Salia Sahi. The staff had reached the slum to disconnect power supply to a school there saying they did not have the requisite forest clearance for it. owever the locals opposed the move and gheraoed the officals. The situation eased after the police intervened.
