Puri temple security

Bhubaneswar: The first coordination committee meeting for the world famous car festival of Puri on Friday decided to install closed circuit television cameras both inside and outside the temple to avoid possible accidents during the event. The National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) has agreed to install the CCTVs. The huge ropes to tug the chariots of the trinity will not be imported from Kerela this year as the Orissa Coir Corporation will supply it to the temple administration. It was also decided in the meeting that all the houses along the Grand Road would be painted with a single colour. The colour, however, will be decided at a separate meeting chaired by the chief minister.

Shower relief

Bhubaneswar: The capital city got a sigh of relief with a sudden shower following thunderstorm on Friday afternoon. After the daytime temperature of 35 degree Celsius at the peak hour on Friday, residents of the capital enjoyed the rains. According to the prediction of the local Met office, thundersquall, accompanied with hail and gusty surface wind speed reaching 60 to 70 kilometre per hour, could occur at a few places over the state in the next two days.

Two trains

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railways on Friday informed the state government that two more trains would be extended to Rourkela soon. These two trains are Jammu Tawi Express and Mourya Express (from Gorakhpur to Hatia). Steps would also be taken for the re-routing of the Puri-New Delhi Utkal Express. Similarly, steps would be taken to run the inter-city express from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela on Sunday. The train to Keonjhar would be extended to Bansapani and Badabil respectively. However, Rourkela Steering Committee, the organisation working for the development of the steel city, has called for a ‘rail roko’ on Sunday protesting against the railways’ ‘apathetic’ attitude to the city

Combing

Bhubaneswar: Director general of police Anup Patnaik said on Friday that combing operation is going on in the Naxal-infested south Orissa districts. Clarifying that the most wanted person, Ramakrishna, has not as yet surrendered as reported earlier, the top police official said that the combing operation would soon nab several Naxals. There is also a chance of surrendering of one or two Naxal leaders in Malkangiri soon, he added.

Health care

Bhubaneswar: The National Aluminium Company Limited (Nalco) has claimed to have organised mobile health care centres to help 48,000 patients in Koraput district alone. While allocating over Rs 5.9 crore for the peripheral development of the area, the Navratna PSU company has organised 820 camps covering 160 peripheral villages.
