Bhubaneswar: The Government Railway Police (GRP) began investigating the death of a Class IX student of Capital High School, Unit-III, on Tuesday. The deceased, Pratap Keshari Jena, had ended his life by jumping before a train on Thursday night, allegedly because of humiliation by teachers. The GRP quizzed the staff members of the school and sought information about the incident. Bhubaneswar: The Badagada police rescued a woman on Monday night who was found lying unconscious on the side of a canal. owever, the identity of the woman, aged about 30, could not be established, as she was unconscious even after 12 hours of being rescued. Although she was not injured, there were blood stains on her sari. The police said they were waiting for her to regain consciousness. Balasore: The secretary of the urban co-operative bank Balasore, who was wanted in a case of financial misappropriation, appeared before the special vigilance court and was sent to jail on Tuesday. The accused, Prasanta Das, had moved the court for anticipatory bail in a vigilance case. he vigilance wing of Balasore police is probing a case of financial irregularities to the tune of nearly Rs 66 lakh against him in connection with purchase of a plot of 18 decimal for the construction of an office building for the co-operative bank. The case of financial embezzlement came to limelight after a few board of directors of the bank had levelled allegations against the secretary. Bhubaneswar: Met officials on Tuesday declared a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Latest satellite imagery and surface observation indicates that a low-pressure area has formed over north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. Under its impact, rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at many places over coastal Orissa and at a few places in interior Orissa. Fishermen have been advised to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
