Bhubaneswar, July 21: Bengal police today arrested a person from Chintamaniswar area here for allegedly kidnapping a woman along with her ten-year-old son nearly eight months ago from North 24 Parganas district of Bengal.

While the police produced the accused, Kapildev Majumdar, 30, in the sub-divisional judicial magistrate’s (SDJM) court and took him in remand, the woman told the court that she did not want to go back to her husband who had lodged the complaint.

The police said Dillip Biswas, a doctor in North 24 Parganas, had lodged a complaint with Gaighat police station on June 1 this year complaining that Majumdar had kidnapped his wife and 10-year-old son.

Following the complaint, the police there registered a case against Majumdar under Section 365 of the IPC and later found that Majumdar had been staying in Chintamaniswar area. A team of police accompanied by Biswas conducted a raid and arrested Majumdar with the help of the city police here.

While Majumdar was produced before the SDJM here, the 28-year-old woman said she did not want to go with her husband. She said that her husband, 45-year-old Biswas was torturing her which is why she had run away with Majumdar. “I was not kidnapped. Rather I had fled with Majumdar and I am happy here and my child is studying in a school here,” she said.

Majumdar was staying in an apartment in Chintamaniswar and had been working in a shop in Unit-I. The child was studying in a public school here. He also did not want to go with his father.
