Bhubaneswar, June 21: Three students from the state - two in the National Cyber Olympiad and one in the International Maths Olympiad - ranked first.

Class XII student of Mother's Public School Shubham Acharya and Class XI student of Delhi Public School, Kalinga, K. Anshuman ranked first in the National Cyber Olympiad. Class V student of DAV Public School Chandrasekharpur, Priyanka Kar ranked first in International Maths Olympiad.

All three were awarded with a gold medal and cash prize of Rs 50,000 each.

Barun Parua, Class VII student of St Paul's School in Rourkela, came third in the International Maths Olympiad. He was awarded a bronze medal.

The Science Olympiad Foundation has been conducting these events for 20 years. This year, the foundation conducted four Olympiad exams, including the National Cyber Olympiad, National Science Olympiad, International Mathematics Olympiad and the International English Olympiad.

Five lakh students from across the country and abroad had taken the exams. During the award programme held in Delhi, the top three international rank-holders from Classes I to XII for the four Olympiad exams were awarded. The top 10 principals and top 40 teachers, whose students put up an exceptional performance at the international level, were also felicitated with cash awards, mementos and citations.

"Competitions such as these help develop a spirit of competitiveness among the students and prepare us to face competition beyond our school level," said Shubham, one of the winners.

"It is a great way to get our performance analysed at the school, city, state and international levels. It enables us to know our level of preparedness," he said.

"Our aim is to identify, motivate and reward talent and performance at the international, state and school levels," said the foundation's executive director Mahabir Singh.

The foundation also provides an annual scholarship to 300 girl children from the economically weaker section and to 120 students excelling in the English language.
