Bhubaneswar, March 7: The special vigilance court today confiscated properties of a retired IAS officer Ramesh Chandra Behera for amassing huge assets disproportionate to his known source of income.

Debudutta Patnaik, officer on special duty attached to director vigilance, said, “We had approached the court to confiscate his properties worth Rs 4.85 lakh as per the 1990 valuation. However, the properties confiscated by the court was estimated at Rs 4.81 lakh. At market price, the property is worth over Rs 1 crore”.

The properties confiscated by the court included one three-storeyed building, 10 plots and a farm house near Berhampur. The vigilance had lodged a case against him in 1995 for amassing huge properties while he was the director of municipalities and additional secretary in housing and urban development in 1990.
