Naveen releases book on temple art

Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik released the book titled Sculptural Art of Upper Mahanasdi Valley in two volumes. The book, an outcome of 12 years of study by Sasanka Sekhar Panda, focuses on more than 14 temples and 72 temple ruins in the upper Mahanadi valley of the state, hitherto unknown to art historians and scholars. Under the rule of the Nala, Parvatadvaraka and Sarabhapuriya dynasties during 5th and 6th centuries AD, the temple art flourished in full swing in the ancient Koraput-Kalahandi region.

Satirist dies

Cuttack: Achyutananda Kar, founder-editor of most popular Odia satirical periodical, Durmukha, died after a prolonged illness at SCB around 2:30am on Sunday. Kar, who was suffering from old-age ailments, died at the age of 79. Since September 13, he had been undergoing treatment at SCB. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter.

Blood donation

Bhubaneswar: Railway engineers with families have donated blood to commemorate the birthday of Sir Visvesvaraya at Upendra Bhanja Railway Institute, Mancheswar. General manager of the East Coast Railway Indra Ghosh inaugurated the camp, which was organised by the East Coast Railway Engineers Association. General secretary Bobin Mohanty, chief administrative officer Onkar Singh, principal chief engineer R. Venkadasamy and chief workshop manager S.P. Singh attended the camp.

Arrest

Balasore: Mumbai police with assistance of their Balasore counterparts on Monday arrested one person from Rajghat in connection with a theft case. The accused has been identified as Sudip Bhuyan, 27. The accused had stolen Rs 61,000 cash from a house at Panpnagar where he was working as a domestic help and fled.

Two nabbed

Bhubaneswar: Pipili police have nabbed two persons in connection with the Tuesday night highway robbery case and recovered a number of cell phones. The two nabbed criminals were identified as Rajkishore Mallick of Dandmakundpur village and Sridhar Mullick of Kunjar.
