Jajpur: The Rehabilitation and Peripheral Development Advisory Committee on Tuesday expressed its concern over violation of government directives for giving priority to recruitment of local residents in various industrial units at Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex, a major industrial hub in the state.he committee deliberated on various pending issues, including employment opportunity of local people in the industries working there. The committee members found that the industries hardly followed the prescribed guidelines in recruiting the unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled and supervisor level employees at the industrial houses located there.

Villager killed

Balangir: A group of 25 to 30 armed Maoists allegedly barged into Khuripani village in Khaprakhole block of this district on Monday night and gunned down Biju Janata Dal member Krushna Punji, 42. he Maoists came to the village from the adjoining forest areas and asked Krushna to come to a meeting in the village. In the praja court conducted by the rebels, he was given death sentence. He was charged with immoral activities such as rape and misuse of power as the village’s ward member.

Bhubaneswar: A group of Bharatpur residents on Tuesday sought the State Human Rights Commission’s intervention alleging police inaction in connection with a clash in the area on Sunday and Monday. round 30 persons met the chairperson of the human rights commission and alleged that some people in their area had been harassing them for a long time.

Keonjhar: Public hearing for environmental clearance for setting up a thermal power plant on the premises of Tata Sponge Limited at Bileipada in this district was disrupted because of opposition by a section of people. However, the public hearing resumed later following intervention of the administration.ocal residents, who opposed the proposed power plant, pulled down the tent of the meeting and destroyed chairs at the venue.

Power crisis

Bhubaneswar: The state has been hit by power crisis for the last two days following the closure of some thermal units. As a result, power cut has been happening in phases across the state. While the peak power requirement was 3300MW, the state was only able to produce 1600MW, said a senior official, adding that the situation would hopefully improve in two days.

Child dead

Bhubaneswar: A two-year-old boy was found dead on Tuesday afternoon in a well on the premises of the residence of mayor AN Jena. The child’s parents, who had been working as gardeners at the mayor’s residence, rushed the child to Capital Hospital where he was declared dead. The child’s parents suspected it to be an accident.
