Bhubaneswar: The Indian Coast Guard has stationed its ship, Vajra, at the coast guard district headquarters-7 of Paradip port to strengthen maritime security of Odisha and Bengal besides controlling the district headquarters. The 74-metre long ship has a helipad and contains guns and other modern arms and ammunitions. At least 34 jawans and a commanding officer will provide round-the-clock service. The ship can also be used for relief work during natural disasters, official sources said. Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Thursday issued notices to Jajpur district collector and executive officer of the Vyasanagar Municipality on a PIL seeking removal of mobile telephone towers that has come up near two schools and a hospital. A local councillor had filed the petition on the ground that electro-magnetic radiation from the tower posed health hazard for students of Aurobindo Integral School, Government High School and hospital patients. The court has asked for a reply within four weeks. Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday approved the appointment of 455 doctors on ad-hoc basis. The doctors will be posted at primary as well as community health care units. The decision is expected to address the huge scarcity of doctors in the state. Bhubaneswar: Five persons were injured when a bus carrying villagers from Gopalpur overturned at Talabania near Puri on Thursday. The group was returning after gheraoing the Puri SP’s office, demanding action against a government lawyer after a fellow villager's body was recovered from his pond. Two of the injured were shifted to SCB Medical hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition. Cuttack: Ten handicrafts clusters will be established in the state, announced chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the meeting of the handloom and handicrafts department. The clusters will allow craftsmen to get raw material and marketing outlets easily. Naveen also directed the officials to prepare project reports on the clusters. Cuttack: Ravenshaw University authorities are planning to engage a counsellor to help students overcome stress. This came a day after the death of third-year information science and telecommunication student Pragyan Routray at her residence in Badamabadi. While police suspect it to be a case of suicide, her family members said she had been murdered. Cuttack: Health minister Damodar Rout on Thursday said Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar would start postgraduate courses in medical science shortly. Accordingly, the required infrastructure would be made available to facilitate smooth running of the courses.
