Paswan promise

Bhubaneswar: Union food supplies minister Ramvilas Paswan on Thursday assured the state government to look into the potato crisis problem faced by the state. He said the Union government had included potato and onion as essential commodities. “We are also going to amend Essential Commodities Act and Prevention of Blackmarketting Act to make the offences non-bailable and increase the imprisonment term from six months to one year,” Paswan said here.

Pistol arrest

Cuttack: Chauliaganj police on Thursday arrested an auto driver for possessing a firearm illegally. The accused has been identified as Dipak Gochi, 29, and one pistol and two rounds of live ammunition have been recovered from his possession.

Tricolour

Kendrapara: Police have registered a case against the organisers of a youth event on the charge of dishonouring the Tricolour. A mahotsav was organised on October 31 under the auspices of sport and youth affair department of the district administration. A complaint lodged in this connection charged that the organisers held a dance competition in which the participants performed on the floor with the Indian national flag laid under their feet.

Kids drown

Dhenkanal: Two children died when a decorated miniature boat they were boarding capsized in a pond at their village at Kandabindha 20km away from here. The deceased were seven-year-old Ansuman Sahu and 10-year old Dipika Barik of the same village.
