
Bhubaneswar, Aug. 25: The civic body has planned to develop a park at Jagannath Colony and revamp three existing ones in Sambalpur city.
The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation will develop the new park on 1.5 acre for Rs 90 lakh.
Jagannath Colony is one of the new posh residential areas of the city. Local residents had planted trees on the land adjoining a water body and installed concrete benches and joyrides to give it a park-like look.
Municipal commissioner of Sambalpur Bimalendu Rai said: "It has been decided that walking tracks will be developed and sitting arrangements built in the area. Besides, landscaping will be undertaken and joyrides for children and outdoor fitness equipment will be installed."
The water body adjoining the park will be de-silted and revived and its embankment will be strengthened. These apart, concrete benches will be constructed on the embankment and decorative lights installed to attract visitors. There will be toilets and provision for water in the park, said Rai.
Apart from developing the park at Jagannath Colony, the municipal corporation will carry out beautification work at Padma Keshari Park at Modipara, the one at Sriram Vihar in Burla and the Children Park at Hirakud.
"A composite tender for the work on the parks have already been floated. The work will be undertaken under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation Scheme. Altogether, Rs 1.61 crore will be spent for the makeover of these parks," Rai said.
"Work on the project will start immediately after the tender is finalised. A target has been set to complete the work within six months after handing over the work order to the contractor," Rai added.
