Music video on Odia culture

Spotlight on tourist places in and around Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, March 31: A group of music lovers in the city has come together to create a music video to celebrate Odia culture ahead of Utkal Divas tomorrow.

The song aims to invoke a sense of pride for the state among the youngsters. The video of 5.5 minutes showcases the achievements of renowned personalities of the state and its heritage.

"Social messages can be effectively conveyed through music videos. We wanted to ensure that our message gets maximum reach," said film-maker Rajesh.

Bharadwaj Panda has written the lyrics and the music is by Bibhuti Bhusan Gadanayak. Singer Susmita Das has lent her voice to the song. A number of folk instruments have been used in the music, including dhudki, khanjani, daskathia, gini, ghungura and benga baja.

"Our state is the home to a number of rare musical instruments which our youngsters may not have heard of. It is very important that the upcoming generations is made aware of such unique traditions," said the singer.

The video was shot in and around Bhubaneswar to highlight various places of interest for tourists.

"The experience of shooting the song was amazing. It was a very proud feeling," Das said.

The video was released on social networking sites today. The teaser of the video was released last week and it has already become a hit on the social media. It will be showcased at a number of educational institutions across the country and abroad.

The video also talks about great rulers of the state, along with the history associated with the freedom movement and the fighters who have been a part of the struggle. "The song aims to inspire and draw strength from our history and hold our heads high like Kharavela, Langula Narasimha Dev, Fakir Mohan Senapati, Madhu Babu and the other legends of Odisha," said Rudra Prasad, a member of the group. Music videos have become very popular in the state lately with a number of youth groups coming up with such videos on various topics. A group of youngsters from the city had come up with a music video to promote the use of herbal colours during Holi.Besides, a group of Odisha-born film technicians recreated the cult Odia bhajan Aahe Neela Saila in a music video, which is getting huge popularity at various social networking sites.
