Berhampur, Sept. 3: Six schoolboys accused of murdering their classmate and dumping his body in the Harbhangi river, were today produced before the Juvenile Justice Board in Paralakhemundi after admitting their crime.
Mohana police said the motive behind the murder was to take revenge from Chabila Sahu, 15, who used to report their wayward activities to the school headmaster. The body of the Class X student of Mohana High School, who had gone missing since August 28, was recovered from the riverbed on Saturday.
The police registered a murder case in this connection and sent the body, bearing deep cuts and gashes, to MKCG Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The postmortem report revealed Chabila had been killed with sharp weapons.
Investigating officer of Mohana police station Ranjit Mahanty said the six boys had gone to Chabila’s house last Thursday after school and asked him to join them for a stroll. “They all went to the Harbhangi river. After almost an hour, the six boys returned to their respective houses and told their family members that Chabila had drowned while bathing,” he said.
