The Institute of Media Studies and the Kalinga Media Centre jointly organised a three-day event — “International Conference On Indian Trade And Commerce: Past, Present And Future” on  March 17 on Regional Institute of Education campus in Bhubaneswar. Minister of excise and finance Sashi Bhusan Behera inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The objective of the conference was celebrate India’s rich heritage in trade and commerce, share knowledge to strengthen global trade environment, strive to preserve and revitalise maritime trade and promote diversified business in international trade. The conference brought together leading academicians, researchers and scholars in the field of culture, history and commerce. Several scholars, experts and researchers across the SAARC countries including Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh shared their thoughts at the three-day conference and more than 300 delegates took part in the meet.

Role of enterprises

Sachi Kanta Kar from Central Tool Room and Training Centre, Bhubaneswar, represented India in Indo-Japan-Africa joint collaboration pilot programme in Kenya as an Indian expert. He was deputed by ministry of micro, small and medium enterprises, government of India. 

He was the first Indian expert to address the programme as informed by high commissioner of India at Nairobi. Topics were discussed on developing manufacturing capabilities of small and medium enterprises, intervention of quality and productivity improvement programmes like Kaizen, zero defect and zero effect maturity assessment model of India, technological upgradation, skill mapping and skill development, Nano technology, space engineering, cluster and consortium development concept and manufacturing capability development. 
 
Yoga seminar

The Academy of Yoga and Oriental Studies organised a lecture on “Secrets of Living for One Hundred Years” at the Fakir Mohan Bhavan here on Sunday with  Pramod Chandra Mishra, former head of department of literature at the Sri Jagannatha Sanskrit University, Puri, as the speaker on the topic. The meeting was presided over by Rajkishor Mishra, former secretary, Odisha Sahitya Akademi. There was a question-answer session after the lecture in which many scholars took part. 

Book release 

The vice-chancellor of Odisha Open University, Srikant Mohapatra, released a book A Special Act written by Ramendra Kumar, chief of communication, Rourkela Steel Plant, at a seminar on “The Role of Media in Nation Building” organised by the Sambalpur District Journalists' Association  in Sambalpur. It is a comic book on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Fashion show 

Actor Rimi Sen inaugurated a centre of the Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) and the INIFD Academy of Interiors in Bhubaneswar recently. CEO Anil Khosla and INIFD Bhubaneswar centre director Asutosh Panda were present during the inauguration. To mark the occasion, a fashion-show was organised where models showcased INIFD designer collections. The centre will provide state-of-the-art facilities, activities and myriad opportunities to the students. 

Marketing event

The Centurion University organised “Tarang Bazaar-2018” on its Jatni campus last week. Vice-chancellor Haribandhu Panda and the deputy vice-chancellor, Supriya Pattanayak, inaugurated the event during which students showcased their innovative retail marketing methods. There were 15 kiosks on food items, drinks, games, health checkup and accessory items.

Rugby champion 

The Kalinga Institute of Information Technology (KIIT) emerged champions in both the men’s and the women’s categories of the All India Inter-University Rugby Championships, which concluded recently at Patiala. In the men’s category (final) KIIT trounced Utkal University 24-14 to take top honours. In the women’s final, KIIT thrashed Punjab University 25-5 to clinch the title. Hupi Majhi scored three tries while Soni Mandangi struck two tries for KIIT. Both the champions and the runners-up qualified for the selection trials of the World University Rugby 75 Championships to be played in Namibia from July 12 to 14. Twenty four teams in the men's category and 24 teams in the women's category took part in the tournament.

Trade meet

The Bhubaneswar branch of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organised a seminar on “Implication of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and Goods and services tax (GST) on preparation of Final Accounts, March 2018 with Auditor’s Perceptive” on March 17 here. Commissioner of income tax, Appeal-I, Bhubaneswar, Sarat Kumar Dash graced the occasion as the chief guest and Tarun Kumar Agarwalla, treasurer, ICAI, Bhubaneswar, spoke on the implication of GST. The seminar was attended by 200 members from Bhubaneswar.
