Bhadrak, July 20: A 24-year-old school teacher was allegedly stabbed by a youth with a knife today at Sahidnagar in the Dhusuri police limits.
The accused, Manas Panigrahi, 25, tried to kill the teacher, Diptimayee Panda, and then made an abortive attempt to end his life. The victim is a Sanskrit teacher and suffered injuries on her stomach and thigh. Besides, the accused also bore more injury marks all over his body. Both the victim and the accused are admitted at district headquarters hospital.
Both of the victim and the accused are residents of neighbouring villages.
Officer in charge of Dhusuri police station Amit Biswal said: "The preliminary investigations revealed that it was a case of a revenge attack by a jilted lover." A local resident said the victim was on her way to school at Khaprapada when Manas attacked him with a knife near a temple.
"After Diptimayee fell on the ground, the accused, in a confused state of mind, climbed atop a high-tension electricity pole and touched the line. Since there was a loadshedding, Manas survived.
