Cuttack, March 24: Orissa High Court has directed the revenue divisional commissioner (central division) to file a compliance report by April 10 on an order passed to demolish “unauthorised constructions of religious nature” in the municipal corporation area.

On January 6, 2011, the high court had ordered for demolition of “religious institutions” that had been built after 1987 on government land without permission from competent authorities and did not find mention in the Record of Rights of 1987.

A division bench of Justice M.M. Das and Justice Indrajit Mahanty asked the revenue divisional commissioner to submit a progress report on implementation of the order while hearing public interest petitions on civic problems in Cuttack city on Wednesday. Members of the bar alleged that no steps had been taken to comply with the order. The bench fixed April 10 for next the hearing.

The chief secretary had formed a high-level committee with the revenue divisional commissioner (central division) as chairman for compliance with the order.

The other members of the committee included commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation, vice-chairman of the Cuttack Development Authority and the police commissioner.
