Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Tuesday expressed disapproval over Odisha Administrative (OAS) officer Bikash Ranjan Mohapatra residing in Bhubaneswar even though he is the city's municipal commissioner.
The court was hearing a petition seeking intervention for shifting of a garbage lifting point at Jhanjirmangala.
Satya Mohanty, a resident of the locality, had filed the petition citing his miseries due to the location of the garbage lifting point in front of his house.
Acting on the petition, the court had earlier directed the Cuttack Municipal Corporation to shift the garbage lifting point. The corporation was to file a compliance report on Tuesday. But when the matter came up, the civic body's counsel expressed inability to shift the garbage lifting point till an alternative site was decided on.
When the court expressed its displeasure over the laid back approach of the municipal corporation, it was pointed out that the municipal commissioner was residing in Bhubaneswar and regularly commuted to Cuttack to attend office. "The division bench of Chief Justice Vineet Saran and Justice B.R. Sarangi took serious note of it and directed the state urban development department commissioner-cum-secretary G. Mathi Vathananan to file an affidavit on the municipal commissioner and other officers of municipal corporation who were staying in Bhubaneswar," petitioner's counsel Dayananda Mohapatra said.
