Bhubaneswar, July 25: The city cops today busted a gun-making unit at Ranapur of Nayagarh district.

They arrested a mother-and-son duo, who were running the unit, and seized a country-made pistol and a huge quantity of gun-making material.

The police said the accused — Nirmal Kumar Moharana, 20, and his mother Shantilata Moharana, 52 — had been making country-made guns and supplying them to criminals in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and the outskirts of these cities.

“They were manufacturing guns such as single shot and six shot revolvers on demand. During interrogation, the duo admitted that they had manufactured and supplied guns to some petty criminals and a few builders. We will verify their statement,” said a police officer.

Nirmal’s father Govind Chandra Moharana, who is also involved in the crime, is absconding. The cops said the family had been involved in illegal gun-making for a decade.
