Jajpur: A video clip of a minor girl being molested by a group of men at Marthapur village in Danagadi police outpost limits in the district has gone viral on social media.
The incident took place a couple of days ago. Instead of freeing the girl from the clutches of the mob, onlookers shot the video and uploaded it online. Police, too, were allegedly reluctant to receive complaint from the girl.
Sources said some criminals set the house of one Damayanti Sethi on fire at the village on June 16. A local resident and his daughter were reaching the spot to douse the fire. The criminals then allegedly assaulted the man en route and molested his daughter.
Soon after the incident, the girl, along with her father, went to local police outpost to lodge a complaint. But, the police allegedly refused to take an FIR.
"I visited the police outpost, along with my daughter, to lodge a complaint. The ASI on duty refused to take it and asked us to wait till arrival of the officer-in-charge," he said.
Danagadi outpost officer-in-charge Gitanjali Nayak admitted to have been absent from the outpost when the man went there. "We will register a case and take appropriate action against the culprits, including the men who shot the incident and circulated it online," she said.
