China scholarship

Around 20 students from Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar, will pursue a Bachelors degree on a scholarship in China with assured jobs after graduation. The study and scholarship in China materialised following deliberations between KISS authorities and Zhou Sheng, Yangzhou Polytechnic College general secretary. These students will be provided with a course in Mandarin in the initial year after which they will be allowed to take up the course of their choice. The college will ensure placement for these students in top Chinese multinational companies that have offices in India. Congratulating the selected students, KISS founder Achyuta Samanta said they were making efforts to arrange for scholarships for KISS students in reputable institutions in other countries as well.

Day out

Parichay Foundation, which will complete 10 years this November, has planned a series of activities for underprivileged children. As part of the celebrations, girl students were taken for a day out at Science Park in Bhubaneswar. They were accompanied by model Christeena Biju, who motivated the underprivileged girls and hosted a number of activities.

Best school

ODM Public School, Bhubaneswar, has been awarded the Microsoft School for 2016-17 by American software giant. ODM is among 850 schools across the globe, identified by Microsoft, as technologically driven in bringing about qualitative transformation through thoughtful digital use. This unique recognition has brought a sense of pride among the students, teachers and parents.

Plea to minister

Inmates of Madhurmayee Adarsh Shikhya Niketan, an institution for children of jail inmates in Bhubaneswar, urged Union petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan to provide 10 LPG cylinders per month. They said they used to get 10 LPG cylinders a month for cooking for 54 inmates, who are children of prisoners in 18 jails in the state. But for unknown reasons, they were not getting the cylinders for the past few months, leading to problems in arranging for fuel to cook their meals.

Green plan

Tata Steel launched The Green School Project in association with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), a leading research institute in energy, environment and sustainable development based in New Delhi, at Tata DAV Public School, Joda, recently. This initiative is aimed at creating awareness and understanding environment issues on school premises where TERI will be actively involved in promoting environment messaging through activities inside the classrooms as well as outdoors.
