Bhubaneswar, Jan. 6: A 42-year old dentist was today arrested on charges of attempting to outrage the modesty of a 50-year-old woman. He was also charged with a case of cheating.

The police said that the woman, a widow, who resides in Surya Nagar, had lodged a complaint against a dentist alleging that he had befriended her with the promise to marry her. However, he had begun torturing her for money.

The police registered a case against Satya Ranjan Samal, the dentist from Cuttack, under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

The complainant had said that the doctor had come in contact with her six months ago. Assuring to marry her, he started torturing her for money.

She accused the doctor of taking more than Rs 4 lakh from her. Instead of repaying the amount, he had allegedly threatened to kill her. “I own a petrol pump and he wanted me to transfer the ownership to him. As I did not do this, he started troubling me more,” said the woman.

The police said that the woman was also facing several cases registered against her in different police stations in the state as well as in Bengal.
