Balasore, Oct. 11: The district hospital administration has transferred one gynaecologist and three nurses after a 20-year-old woman died during delivery on Thursday night.
Family members of the deceased have accused the employees of neglecting the woman and not providing proper treatment to her, on Friday. District collector Sanatan Mallick has ordered a probe into the incident.
The complainant, Dambarudhar Das, 26, of Jambeswarpur village in Remuna, said he had admitted his wife, Sudipta Das, to the hospital on Thursday at 2.15pm. Though Sudipta had been screaming for help in labour pain, the doctor, Trinath Pal, did not visit her and the nurse on duty could do little. Due to lack of attention, the woman, along with the unborn child, died.
Yesterday, Sudipta’s relatives and a few local people staged a dharna outside the office of chief district medical officer Anup Ghosh, demanding action against Pal and the staff members of the hospital. They withdrew the dharna after Mallick had ordered for the inquiry.
Ghosh said a nine-member team had looked into the complaint. Subsequently, the doctor and the staff members, including the warden-in-charge, have been shifted. Pal has been shifted to Nilgiri.
Ghosh said: “There was another allegation of death due to negligence against Pal in the second week of last month.”
On September 9, Udla resident Kisangopal Sarad, 23, died at the hospital. Following this, a mob staged a demonstration. Pal was alleged in this case as well.
The agitators, besides ransacking the hospital, had assaulted the staff members, including Ghosh.
Inspector in charge of Town police station Bijay Murmu said: “A case has been registered on the basis of the complaint made by Das and the investigation is under way.”
