Bhubaneswar, Aug. 14: Congress leader and former MP Soumya Ranjan Patnaik today went ahead with his sankalp rally at Bhadrak, despite being served with a disciplinary notice.
Addressing the rally, Patnaik said he had not breached party discipline. “No one should worry about this rally. There must be some misunderstanding between us. I will invite Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Jaydev Jena to attend the next meeting.”
Patnaik said the misunderstanding was “like that between a husband and a wife, which gets resolved”.
Contacted, PCC president Jena refused to comment. However, disciplinary committee member Sandhya Mohapatra said: “Patnaik has not taken permission to hold the meeting. He should refrain from organising such meetings.”
The disciplinary committee maintained that the former MP’s actions had sent a wrong message to the people projecting the Congress as a divided house in the state.
