Bhubaneswar, May 14: Ten students demonstrated in front of BJB Autonomous College today after they were not allowed to take the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) for arriving late.

Around 52,560 students today appeared for the OJEE, which is mandatory for admission into most professional and technical courses at various colleges of the state.

The examination was held for entry into various disciplines such as MBA, MCA, pharmacy, lateral entry for engineering and technology. It was held in 21 cities in three sessions. The first sitting began at 9am and the following ones at 12noon and 2.30pm.

Students are supposed to reach the OJEE examination hall one hour before its start. However, the students in question at BJB Autonomous College reached only 15 minutes before the exam was supposed to begin.

Consequently, they were not allowed in and so they staged a demonstration in front of the college.

The authorities had taken steps to ensure the examination was conducted smoothly. The district collectors and police superintendents had been directed to tighten the security at the centres.

"The details of the exam paper, address of the exam centres, timings and all other details were intimated to the students through the admit card. Students were instructed to carry only the admit card and pen and no electronic gadget to the exam centre. We had repeatedly asked the examinees to follow the guidelines strictly," said OJEE chairman Tushar Kumar Nath.

The results will be published in the first week of June.

The Council of Higher Secondary Education, Odisha, will hold instant examinations for Plus Two students in arts, commerce and vocational courses from June 27 to June 30.

"The filling of forms for the instant examinations will be completed by June 15 and the results will be published by the second week of July," said controller of examinations Biranchi Narayan Mishra.

While the results for the science stream was published on Friday, the results of arts, commerce and vocational courses will be declared by May 31. The notification for the instant examinations will be published after that, he said.
