Bhubaneswar: A science innovation hub was inaugurated at the Regional Science Centre here on Wednesday.

The hub, set up at a cost of Rs 1.20 crore on the centre premises, will mentor and support unique and original ideas based on science.

"Anyone - including school and college students, engineering graduates even others with a scientific temper and having an innovative idea - are welcome here. Our scientists will understand the concept, do a feasibility study and also guide them in the project with required technical and material support," said project coordinator of the centre Amit Mandal.

The hub will also encourage students to innovate by organising various activities, workshops, talks and seminars.

In the innovation hub, inspiring stories of innovators have been displayed and also details of some interesting innovations will be shown through multi-media. Interactive kiosks have been put up to access information on scientific theories, e-journals and other innovation portals.

The laboratory in the hub also has provisions for using robotics, electrical, mechanical, computer and microprocessor facilities under professional guidance.

A mirror gallery was also inaugurated at the centre on Wednesday. With this, the total number of galleries at the centre has reached four.

The mirror gallery has several exhibits and instruments based on various theories of reflection, refraction, movement of light and so on.

Some of the interesting exhibits include the infinite tunnel, self-control mirror and anamorphoses.

Huge number of students from various schools visited the centre on Wednesday.

For most of them, the Bhool Bhulaiya was the most joyful ride which was a tunnel from where visitors had to get inside from one end and come out from the others with the mirrors creating a never-ending feeling.

"It was very interesting and we had a lot of fun," said Yuvraj Panda, a Class-VI student of Doon International School.

The centre receives around 2.5 lakh visitors every year.
