Bhubaneswar: Twenty lakh people are expected to visit the
Toshali National Crafts Mela that started at Janata Maidan here on Friday.
Organised by the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation, the fair showcases a plethora of crafts from various parts of the country.
Weavers and craftsmen are showcasing their craft and selling their wares at the fair. A kiosk that attracted a large number of visitors on the inaugural day was the live demonstration of crafts made from natural fibres. A pavilion has been conceptualised with the theme "Prakruti" meaning nature, in the middle of the fair ground.
"It was very interesting to see the artisans making jute mattresses," said Nisha Mishra, a student.
A number of kiosks selling women's clothes have also been set up.
A wide variety of kurtis, saris, stoles and salwar suits are available in a wide range of colours and designs.
There is also a big clothing collection available for both men and women in organic fabrics. A variety of jewellery and footwear is also on sale.
The fair has 350 handicraft and handloom kiosks this time. Around 100 artisans and 50 weavers from across the country and 140 artisans and 60 weavers of the state are taking part in the fair.
Painters, wood craftsmen, sculptors and artisans of cane-work, oxidised jewellery and artificial flowers are also taking part in the event.
Many hotels and restaurants of the city have opened their outlets at the fair. Mughlai, Odia, Chinese and other cuisines are on offer. Cultural programmes are being held in the evening. The organisers expect products worth Rs 20 crore to sold at the fair.
