Bhubaneswar. Aug.29: The All India Council for Technical Education is devising a six-month programme to make teachers familiar with the new-age training techniques.

This pedagogical training will be made compulsory for the teachers and implemented from the next year.

"In the traditional practise of teaching, trainers provide notes and give lecture to students. But, students these days lack patience. So, teachers will be trained to engage the students through videos and discussions," said Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, chairman of the council for technical education, who was in the city today.

"Any new faculty member entering into the profession has to undergo the training. Moreover, the training will be made compulsory for the existing teachers to get promotions," added the chairman.

He further said that the technical varsities in the state had been asked to revise the curriculum every year. "Many varsities don't have the expertise to revise their curriculum, so the council does it for them and ask them to adopt it. About 80 percent of the curriculum can be in accordance to the council terms and the rest can be according to the local needs," he said.

Speaking about the Swayam portal launched by council, Sahasrabudhe said: "This platform has 700 courses right now and 1.6 lakh students have been registered. These courses are provided by the faculty members of Indian Institute of Technology."

This apart, the council in collaboration with the Indo-European Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises organised a daylong workshop in which roadmaps were drawn to create entrepreneurship and employment opportunities in the 29 subjects of panchayat raj in the villages adopted under Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana by members of Parliament.

Barsha Priyadarshini was declared as the brand ambassador of clean campus while Archita Sahu became the brand ambassador of Startup India in the state.

"We want the students to visit the nearby villages and help popularise the schemes of panchayat raj. They can also help to resolve problems like sanitation, electricity and other issues," he said.

The workshop was launched in the state yesterday at Kantia village in Jatni. "We have set a target to start the initiative under the 21 members of Parliament of the state by December this year," said Jublee Sundaray, state coordinator of Indo-European Chamber of Small and Medium Enterprises.

Showroom fire

A fire broke out at a car showroom in Bhanapur, located between Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, on Tuesday morning. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, though a shortcircuit is suspected.

Security guards first noticed smoke billowing out of the ground floor workshop. The fire later spread to the first floor. No one was injured and no car caught fire. Seven fire tenders and 60 fire officials were pressed into service to control the fire, which could be doused after a few hours.
