Bhubaneswar, Jan. 25: The city police are yet to make any arrests in connection with the murder of 40-year-old business executive, Debashis Mohanty, whose body was found on the back seat of his car near the NH-5 on Monday.
“We have got some clues and hope to arrest the culprits soon,” said deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Himanshu Lal, adding that the police were close to solving the case. The special squad of the city police is investigating the case.
Mohanty, who was the area manager of First Flight Courier, had gone to attend a marriage with his family yesterday when he received a phone call and left the place. Later, his body with a bullet wound was found in his car, which was parked behind a school near NH-5.
Police suspect the culprits had travelled with Mohanty in his car and later killed him and left his body in the vehicle, about 300 metres from the Janla police outpost.
His family members have told the police that he was under stress because of official problems.
“He used to talk about a consignment that was looted on the NH-5 in the Janla area. He suspected the involvement of some of his office staff,” said Sonali Mohanty, his wife.
Police sources said there was another dispute in which Mohanty was involved but this had been settled in his favour.
“We are looking into all the aspects of the case and hope to nab the culprits very soon,” said a police officer.
