Farewells and reunions
Students of the audiovisual Club of Veer Surendra Sai University Of Technology, Burla, organised a documentary film-making competition on March 20 during the varsity’s annual cultural festival. As many as 21 seven-minute documentaries and short films were screened. The participants were from institutes such as the IIT, Kharagpur, NIT, Rourkela, KIIT University, SOA University, C.V. Raman College of Engineering and the host varsity. The IIT, Kharagpur team bagged the best documentary award for its Just Another Woman. Film-maker Sabyasachi Mohapatra was present on the occasion and interacted with the students on various aspects of film-making.
Farewell party
A farewell celebration was extended to the outgoing students of Asian School of Business Management PGDM 2014-16 Batch at a ceremony Smruti-O-Anubhuti last week. During his address, institute director Biswajeet Pattanayak said the students must infuse themselves with the positive vibrations and extend their acumen in the corporate world. He gave thrust on strong network of alumni. The students shared their memories during their course of study and also gave tips to their juniors on how to face campus recruitment interviews.
Quiz time
Abhinav Dhar and Siddharth Mishra from the KIIT University defeated 95 teams to win the Bhubaneswar regional round of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz held on the XIMB campus on March 28. They will now battle against the champions from eight cities at the Zone 2 finals. Rohit Mohanty and Satyam Rahul Jain from the XIMB were declared as the runners-up. The 12th edition of quiz is a 20-20 game to be played on the basis of a 20-question preliminary round followed by a T20 format final. The winner is awarded a prize money of Rs 75,000 and the runners-up Rs 35,000, respectively.
Alumni meet
The annual meet of the Odisha Chapter of Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association was organised on March 19 at a hotel in Bhubaneswar. Odisha Financial Services officers Aishwarya Rutuparna Pradhan, Saishree Loknath Prasad Sethi and four other Odisha Information Services officers were felicitated at the event as part of this year’s theme — Campus-wale-Bureaucrats. Over 100 alumni of the institute working in various organisations across the state were present on the occasion. Principal organiser and the association’s vice-president Prasad Sanyal said such get-togethers help in connecting with old pals and share old memories. President Sanjay Sahoo reflected upon the significance of convening such meetings and sought participation from members in organising seminars in future.
Cultural fest
The two-day annual festival of the Balasore College of Engineering and Technology was held last week on the college campus at Segarh. As a part of the fest, Charisma, several eminent speakers from the field of science and technology addressed the students and urged them to be innovative, work for society and develop themselves as entrepreneurs. Several cultural programmes, including musical and DJ night, were held. A number of competitions and events such as online gaming quizzes, advertising and marketing, music and dance, photography and fashion show were parts of the fest. Students from various engineering colleges across the state also took part in the event.
Hostel fun
The female students of the Ganagadhar Meher University took part in several cultural programmes organised during the annual function of the hostel. Registrar Smita Devi was the chief guest of the occasion, while dean of student affairs Kamdev Sahu was the chief speaker. They interacted with the students about various problems that they were facing at the hostel and said the issues would shortly be solved. Prior to the event, a number of essay, quiz and debate competitions were held and the prizes of which were distributed on the annual day.
Hair study
The IMS and Sum Hospital, the faculty of medical sciences of the SOA University, has set up a hair transplant unit at the institute. Jayant Kumar Dash, head of the department of burns, plastic and reconstructive surgery at the hospital, said the procedure would be conducted with the help of qualified and trained personnel. The painless procedure will be done under local anaesthesia and hair from the back of the scalp will be harvested by follicular unit extraction method. The students of the institute will also be trained in the process.
