The state government has formed a task force with works department officials for periodic checks on all important bridge and road projects in Odisha. The move comes in wake of back-to-back bridge collapse incidents and other irregularities in infrastructure development.

The task force will include chief engineers of different wings, including road and civil, who will identify and check the quality of work by contractors. They will be assisted by ground level officials such as executive engineers and senior engineers.

"The task force will schedule visits to the sites. They will intimate the contractor and the government so as the former will keep documents and other important things ready for inspection. They will report to the government periodically," said a senior works department official.

Separate teams will inspect different kinds of projects, including quality parameters and proper maintenance of stage-pass registers. The executive engineers will present the records and registers and explain the quality control measures.
