Bhubaneswar, Sept. 28: A ceiling fan that was repaired four days ago fell on an 86-year-old partially paralysed patient at Capital Hospital this morning, causing panic among others in the ward.

Padmalochan Sahu of Mangalajodi village in Tangi area of Khurda had a close shave when the ceiling fan in the male ward fell on his chest around 11.30am. Sahu, who was admitted to the government-run hospital four days ago with partial paralysis, was shocked after incident.

The doctors conducted X-ray, ultrasound and other checks to ascertain whether Sahu had suffered any injuries and he had not.

Director of Capital Hospital Sudhir Chandra Mallick said workers of the government electrical department conducted regular checks on electrical equipment and had repaired the fan in question on September 22. “We have lodged a complaint with their officials,” said Mallick. The government electrical department officials refused to comment.
