Sambalpur, Aug. 23: Stray cattle are causing traffic chaos in the city but the civic body has no concrete plans to tackle the menace.

Cattle can be spotted on almost all roads of the city.

These animals can be seen at Charbhati Chhak, Jailkhana Chhak, Ainthapali Chhak, Golebazar Chhak, Laxmi Talkies Chhak and other important markets of the city. Since the authorities have not taken any initiative to check the problem, the number of stray cattle has been on the rise.

The civic body had recently appealed to the cattle-owners not to let the animals wander in the city. However, the move did not yield any result.

An elderly citizen of the city, Seshadev Das, said: “There was a kine house at Modipara in the city. But it was closed down around 10 years ago.”

“Several accidents are also taking place because of these animals,” said Tarun Meher, a local resident.

The municipality has asked some of their staff to chase away the stray cattle from the roads, said a source.

“The civic body should think of a permanent solution to the problem,” said Smrutiranjan Lenka, another local resident.

Executive officer of Sambalpur Municipality Anirudhha Padhan said: “We had a meeting with the chief district veterinary officer on this issue.” He said they were chalking out ways to deal with the problem.
