Bee attack

Kendrapara: At least 15 devotees, mostly women, were victims of a bee attack at Sialia village under Rajkanika tehsil of Kendrapara district on Sunday. The attack started when the devotees lit incense sticks to offer puja to the Kharakhai deity in the village. 

Three dead

Balangir: Three people were killed on Sunday when the motorcycle there were travelling on ran into a tree by the road at Harishankar Chhak in Khaprakhol block of Balangir district. The deceased are Rameshwar Sahu, Debendra Edja 
and Akshay Gahir of Kendudar village in Paikamal block of Bargarh district, police sources said.

Zoo footfall

Bhubaneswar: A record 50,648 people visited the Nandankanan zoo on Sunday. Zoo officials said Rs 11.32 lakh was collected as revenue. 

Trader dies

Kendrapara: A local businessman Sridhar Sahoo, 31, of Haladia village in Kendrapara district, who was allegedly kidnapped late on Friday evening and later dumped in a critical condition, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital here on Sunday. 

Konark

Bhubaneswar: A day after experts expressed apprehensions about the stability of Konark Sun temple, the state government said it would draw attention of the Centre in this regard. “ We hope that the Archaeological Survey of India will take adequate steps for conservation of the historical monument,” culture minister Ashok Panda said on Sunday.

Book release

Bhubaneswar: Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Justice Vineet Saran released a book, a collection of selected speeches of governor S.C. Jamir, at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

Helping hand

Sambalpur:  Indian Red Cross Society, Sambalpur branch, launched a new initiative - Helping Hand - to collect donations from people and distribute them to poor people on Sunday.
