Minor raped

Cuttack:  Sadar police on Monday held a youth for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl on Sunday. The accused, Ratikant Das, 35, had raped her by luring her with a chocolate. The girl is under treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Mining hit 

Talcher: Activities came to a halt in the Talcher industrial belt on Monday because of a two-day economic blockade imposed by Talcher Surakhya Manch, a BJD outfit. All the nine coalmines were shut down, coal supply to power plants in and outside the state was also stopped. 

ASI report

Cuttack:  The Archaeological Survey of India informed Orissa High Court on Monday that there has been no substantial progress in the repair of the main structure of Jagmohan of Jagannath Temple in Puri.

MCI visit

Cuttack: A four-member team of the Medical Council of India visited SCB Medical College and Hospital on Monday to review the infrastructure with respect to the increased capacity for the MBBS course.

Save tigers

Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader and former Union environment and forest minister Jairam Ramesh urged the state government on Monday to take urgent steps to save the tigers in Odisha.

Polavaram 

Bhubaneswar: The NGT issued an order to the ministry of environment and forest on Monday to submit a complete status report on the Polavaram project. 

HC directive  

Cuttack: Orissa High Court on Monday asked all parties concerned to take a stand on the fake affidavit issue of BJD leader and Rajya Sabha MP N. Bhaskar Rao.
