Raahgiri extension

Bhubaneswar: The municipal corporation has decided to continue Raahgiri for four more weeks. Civic officials had earlier decided to observe the day on a pilot basis for four weeks. However, the overwhelming response from citizens forced the administration to reconsider its decision.

Strike threat

Cuttack: The Junior Doctors’ Association of SCB Medical College and Hospital has decided to go on cease work if criminal cases against nine MKCG Medical College and Hospital students are not dropped. They have demanded action against a Baidyanathpur police station official, and tight security in the state’s three government-run medical colleges.

Four killed

Berhampur: Four tribal people, including a woman, from Mankada-chuan village were killed and buried in the Goudagotha forest. Police identified them as Chamuru Raita, Bhima Gamanga, Jemi Gamanga (Bhima’s wife) and Anand Raita. “We have exhumed the bodies from the jungle and detained three persons,” said a police official. The police said the accused had called the four deceased on Saturday and attacked them.

Gift for PM

Bhubaneswar: Nalco chief managing director T.K. Chand on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and presented his book Aluminium: The Strategic Metal. The central vigilance commissioner officially released the book last month. Chand described the book as a one-stop shop for information on the value chain of aluminium making from bauxite mining to rolling, casting and high-end product making.
