Youth held
Bhubaneswar: Police on Friday arrested an 18-year-old daily wager for allegedly filming a girl student of a city-based private university in the bathroom of a ladies’ hostel. The accused, identified as Rakesh Padhiary, was caught red-handed on Thursday while he was filming the girl on his smart phone. The police said the accused was booked under sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 354 (outraging the modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
Cycle scheme
Bhubaneswar: The state government would evaluate the free-bicycle scheme meant for Class X students through an external agency. Lucknow-based AMS Consulting Private Limited has been selected for the job. The school and mass education department has appointed a nodal officer to supervise the
operations.
Class boycott
Berhampur: The MBBS students of MKCG Medical College and Hospital here are boycotting classes for an indefinite period and closed the library protesting against transfer of two faculty members of the paediatrics department to the Sishu Bhavan in Cuttack. Secretary of the MBBS students’ union Rajaram Swain said: “We have resorted to sit-in since Thursday.”
Elephant attack
Baripada: An elephant trampled an 18-year-old youth to death on Friday at Kendujuani under Karanjia block. The deceased has been identified as Chaitanya Prasad Majhi.

Balasore: A 27-year-old man staying at a rented house in Angargadia allegedly committed suicide.
Fraud case bail
Cuttack: The single judge bench of S.K. Mishra granted anticipatory bail to Chitra Athwani, a former airhostess, whom police have summoned in connection with her links with the vice-chairman of a renowned newspaper group, P.K. Iyer, accused in a Rs 357-crore fraud case. The police had summoned to record her statement in connection with Iyer’s stay in a room booked in her name at a star hotel in Bhubaneswar. The cops arrested Iyer from the hotel on June 6 in connection with the fraud case.
Cars seized
Cuttack: The crime branch recovered two vehicles, including a SUV from Trahi Achyuta Ashram of the self-styled spiritual leader Surendra Mishra alias Sura. Both the cars, suspected to be used by Sura and his family, were concealed inside a garage inside the ashram. Additional director-general of police B.K. Sharma said both the
vehicles were also suspected to be used for the ashram work while a person had also claimed ownership of the
vehicles.
Teachers’ test
Bhubaneswar: The Board of Secondary Education will conduct the Odisha Teachers Eligibility Test on September 27. More than 1.05 lakh candidates will take the test this year at 223 centres across the state. Applicants can download their admit card from the board's official website.
