Bhubaneswar, Sept. 26: The movable and immovable assets of the BJD candidate for the Kandhamal Lok Sabha by-poll, Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh, is worth over Rs 60 crore. It is nearly Rs 11.25 crore more than the assets declared by her late husband Hemendra Chandra Singh in March this year ahead of the general elections.
This is according to the affidavits filed by them before the Election Commission at the time of filing of their nomination papers.
Hemendra had jumped onto the BJD bandwagon from the Congress on the eve of the last general elections and contested as a BJD candidate from the Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency.
In terms of property, he was then third among the candidates from Odisha coming behind Puri member of Parliament, Pinaki Mishra and Balasore MP Rabindra Jena. Mishra then had property worth Rs 137 crore and Jena Rs 57 crore.
According to Hemendra’s statement, his movable assets were worth Rs 13.68 crore while his immovable assets were worth Rs 35 crore.
On the other hand, Pratyusha, in her affidavit, has shown her movable assets to be worth Rs 16.47 crore while the immovable assets are worth Rs 43.65 crore. Interestingly, she has no land property in her name.
Pratyusha has shown her immovable assets to be worth Rs 43.65 crore that is Rs 7 crore more than what her late husband had declared.
As far as moveable assets are concerned, Pratyusha’s affidavit indicates to an increase of Rs 2.5 crore in her property.
Although the late MP had not shown ownership of any weapon in his affidavit, his wife has revealed that the royal family owns four rifles, a revolver and a shotgun.
Besides the family also owns several diamond studded wristwatches worth lakhs of rupees.
In another development, Congress candidate Abhimanyu Behera and BJP nominee Rudramadhab Ray today filed nomination papers for the Kandhamal seat today.
Ray, who joined the BJP on Sunday, is expected to make the fight in the constituency a triangular contest.
