Bhubaneswar, July 14: Nayapalli police today handed over the body of the 19-year-old girl, who allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room at Nilakantha Nagar yesterday, to her family members. No suicide note was also found. The girl’s parents did not comment on the reason behind her death.
The girl, identified as Lipina Dhal, was a first-year-nursing student in a private nursing college in the city. Lipina had been staying in the hostel for the last few months. Yesterday around 11am, the Nayapalli police recovered her body with foam coming out of her mouth. She was rushed to hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Her parents reached Bhubaneswar from Jajpur this morning and the police handed over the body to them after post-mortem. Prafull Dhal, father of the deceased, said his daughter had come to the city this year and was doing well in her studies.
“Yesterday, someone from her hostel informed me that she was unwell and had been taken to a hospital. Later, we got another call saying she was dead,” said Dhal, a state government employee.
“We lost our daughter. We have no complaint against anyone. We will not get back her even if we hold anybody responsible for her death,” said Dhal. However, sources close to the girl’s family said the hostel staff should be held responsible for her death.
A relative of the deceased said Lipina was not feeling good in the morning. She had apparently even mentioned about it to a hostel staff. As nobody listened to her, she went to her bed and slept. Later, she was found dead.
“Had she been taken to hospital on time, she would have survived,” said the relative. However, neither the hostel staff, nor the girl’s friends refused to comment.
The police said they did not receive any complaint from the girl’s family members. “Circumstantial evidence showed that she had committed suicide. Moreover, we are waiting for the post-mortem report,” said a police officer.
In another incident, the Nayapalli police today recovered the body of an unidentified person from roadside near Salia Sahi.
We have registered an unnatural death case and sent the body for post-mortem. We are probing the matter,” said a police officer.
