Bhubaneswar, Nov. 21: Rourkela police today rescued a 22-year-old man, who had been kidnapped from Bengal’s Hooghly district last Friday.

The man, identified as Amit Sikhwal, of Rishra in Hooghly, had been kidnapped by three youths.

Inspector in-charge of Rourkela plant site police station Arun Swain said Sikhwal was found on a pavement at Madhusudan Marg last night. “We brought him to the police station and informed his parents,” said Swain.

The police said their Hooghly counterparts had informed them about the youth’s missing. “They tracked Sikhwal’s mobile phone and informed us about his whereabouts and we found him on a footpath,” Swain said adding that his father had lodged a missing report with the Rishra police.

The inspector said Sikhwal had narrated how he was kidnapped by three youths and was dropped at Angul on the national highway. According to Sikhwal, he had gone to a market on Friday afternoon when a girl asked him the direction to a place. While he was talking to her, three men picked up a quarrel with him and eventually forced him into a Tata Sumo.

Later, the abductors drugged him and confined him to a dilapidated house along with the girl, with whom he was talking to. Sikhwal said he was tortured and drugged again. Later, when he got back his senses, he found himself lying on the national highway in Angul.

A family travelling in a car dropped him in Rourkela. The police said the youth was admitted to a hospital and his health condition was normal. Sikhwal has cut marks on his body. “We are trying to catch the kidnappers,” said police adding that they would hand over the youth to his family members when they came here.
