Cuttack, March 11: A number of residential and housing complexes have come up in the satellite township developed by Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) at Abhinav Bidanasi over the past few years. These complexes have come up on plots distributed under a CDA scheme.
However, the residents of sector 10 are now having a harrowing time due to lack of adequate measures towards the maintenance of existing infrastructure including roads.
A number of people with the desire to get better facilities had opted to build houses on these plots.
“The condition of roads in sector 10 is in a bad shape. There are big potholes on roads, which are making life miserable for the residents like us. As no step has been taken for the repair of the roads, there has been a rise in the number of accidents in the area,” said Chittaranjan Das (45), a local resident.
There are open manholes, which are posing a threat to the lives of children and senior citizens in the area. Similarly, the underground sewerage systems are also blocked causing serious inconvenience to the people in the area, Das added. Apart from this, the overall sanitation in the area that falls under ward No. 2 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is almost negligible. One can find heaps of garbage including polythene bags and plastic items dumped along the roadside in the area.
“As no step is being taken for the removal of garbage, the residents are forced to throw their waste items on the road. As a result, waste items fall into the underground sewerage channels thereby blocking it,” said Debasish Ray (41), another local resident.
Similarly, better drinking facilities is also a major area of concern for most of the residents in sector 10. The residents allege that no step has been taken by the civic authorities to provide better drinking water facilities despite several complaints.
On the other hand, local councillor Sudhir Kumar Rout informed that steps are being taken to solve the grievances of the residents in the area.
“CDA has handed over the responsibility for the supply of piped drinking water to the public health department (PHD) recently and drinking water problem has been solved to great extent in the area,” said Rout.
A number of roads have been constructed and steps are being taken for the repairs of existing roads that are not in good condition. Steps are also being taken for the repairs of the underground sewerage systems that are defunct at many places, the councillor added.
