Bhubaneswar, Feb. 27: Film star Tanmay Mohanty, alias Babushan, was allegedly abused by local people at Malipada in Chandaka police limits last night after the vehicle, in which the actor was travelling, hit another car.
Sources said the actor was allowed to leave the spot only after he offered an apology and promised to bear the repair cost of the damaged vehicle.
However when contacted, Babushan denied any such incident having taken place. The actor, who was busy shooting at CDA in Cuttack for his upcoming film, could not explain why the local people had levelled the allegation against him.
Eyewitnesses said the incident took place around 10.30pm last night when Babushan, the son of veteran star couple Uttam and Aparajita Mohanty, was on his way home after finishing a shoot at the Kalinga Studio on the city outskirts. The actor was in a Mahindra Xylo with two of his friends when the vehicle hit a Maruti Swift parked on the road.
"As the owner of the Maruti Swift was all alone, Babushan and his driver started arguing with him. The vehicle owner, a local businessman, then informed us over phone. When we reached the spot, the actor was not ready to budge and blamed the Swift owner for the mishap," a local resident said on condition of anonymity.
Later, cops reached the spot after getting information about the incident from local residents. "The matter was amicably settled after the actor apologised and promised to bear the expense of damage of the other car," said another eyewitness.
The police said that no complaint had been registered from either side pertaining to the incident.
In January 2011, Nayapalli police had registered a case against the actor under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 379 (theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by one Ankit Das, who had alleged the actor of beating him up in front of a star hotel at Nayapalli while he was talking on his mobile phone. Later, the actor had secured bail from the police. At that time, the actor, in his defence, claimed that the youth had passed lewd remarks leading to a heated exchange between them.
