Kendrapara: The school and mass education department has suspended two teachers on charge of perpetrating alcoholic nuisance on the school premises.

Besides, around 70 teachers were served notices and directed to furnish compliance report on the series of allegations levelled against them. Charges framed against them include among others midday meal grain bungling, absenteeism and breach of departmental discipline.

Assistant teacher Ratnakar Sethy of the Gachamangala Upper Primary School at Balia village in Balipala gram panchayat of Mahakalpada tehsil had allegedly come to the school drunk last week. The students were also misbehaved by the tipsy teacher. Following this, parents and guardians brought the matter to the notice of the department. An inquiry had been ordered into the unsavoury episode. The probe found veracity in the charges. Accordingly, the guilty teacher was placed under suspension," said Mahakalpada block education officer Tanmay Kumar Beura.

In another incident, Minati Sethy, headmistress of the Orata Upper Primary School in Deulpada gram panchayat, has been suspended for midday meal defalcation and absenteeism, he said.

"Allegations have also been levelled regarding fake enrolment of students in the government-run primary schools for misappropriation of ration for the midday meal. A departmental inquiry committee has been formed to look into the allegations. Disciplinary action would be initiated against those either involved or promoting the ghost enrolment," said an official.

Cases of unauthorised absenteeism were also detected during the course of inspection. More than 50 teachers were found absent in the schools without submission of the mandatory leave applications. Their salary has also been held up and show cause notice have been served on them, the official said.
