Cuttack, Feb. 5: A 22-year-old teacher was arrested on Tuesday for sexually abusing a teenage boy of a private residential college here.
Markat Nagar police said the accused, Pravas Ranjan Mallick of Kendrapara district, had sexually assaulted the 16-year-old student in the college hostel on February 3. The matter came to light after the student reported the incident to his family members, who later registered a police complaint late last night.
The victim, who hails from Baranga, is a Plus Two science student of the college at CDA. Based on the FIR, the accused mathematics tutor, was arrested from his village, Badamanga, under sections 377, 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 4 of the Protection of Children against Sexual Abuse Act, 2012.
The police said the tutor had been absconding after the incident, but a special squad arrested him early this morning from Aul.
Medical examination of both the victim and accused was conducted at SCB Medical College and Hospital here this evening. Later, the accused was produced before the court and has been sent to judicial custody.
Bhawani Prasad Mishra, director of the college, said: “It is a matter of serious concern and we have decided to install CCTV cameras in the hostel and other places in the college to keep an eye on such incidents.”
